My students are wonderfully independent and unique. They come from an urban environment and are in need of every opportunity to be engaged and enriched through school.
My students don't come to school with supplies all the time and need help from us, their teachers, just to ensure their basic needs.
We try, but can't always get them everything they need. That's where you come in.
My students come in many shapes, sizes, and abilities. They work hard and often struggle. They need support to get there, which is what I try to do. It helps if my classroom can be warmer and my classroom library richer.
My Project
My students don't engage easily in reading; I am always striving to make it a fun and interesting experience for my kids. That's why I started this project.
These five requested bean bag chairs will help my students relax and learn that reading can be fun.
Adding these new books are of higher interest in a variety of ability levels to entice even the most finicky of readers.
My hope is to have a rotation in my classroom so that all of my students can get time reading from the comfort of a bean bag chair and a book of their choice.
The seventeen books I’ve selected hit students reading below grade-level with titles like: I Am Malala: How One Girl Stood Up for Education and Changed the World, Wonder, and Hidden Figures but I have also selected several higher level books to push more advanced readers, such as: The Hate U Give and The Catcher In the Rye. Included in the book selections are high-interest on-grade-level texts like Monster, Speak, and The Hunger Games.
The combination of these engaging texts at different ability levels and he fun, colorful bean bag chairs for the kids to get comfortable when reading in, I feel I can begin to draw out a love of reading in my students.
