Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 3rd grade at Title 1 school in Deltona, FL. My students are coming to me without many supplies of their own. This will be their first year taking the FSA Math and Reading test. 3rd grade is mandatory retention year and they have to pass the Reading to be promoted. They are coming to me already struggling with Reading. My goal is to change that!
Help my students succeed and learn to love Reading!
With my project students will have access to the SSRYA books right in my own classroom instead of having to wait for them to be in the school library.
My Project
Our school's librarian sets a goal for our 3-5 grade students to read all of the 15 SSYRA (Sunshine State Young Readers Award) books by the end of the year. If they read them and pass the Reading Counts tests they earn a T-shirt and a special lunch off campus!
Help them to enjoy and love reading!
By having these books in my classroom library students will not have to wait to check them out in the library. We have over 700 students in our school and most of the time the SSYRA books are always checked out. Making it harder for my class to read them. I also want my students to have a comfy place to read whether it is on the bean bag chairs in my library or by using the rockers somewhere else in the room.
