My students need series books such as Katie Woo and Nate the Great to get them hooked on the characters and create a love of reading. We also are needing 1st grade/2nd grade reading leveled books.

My Students

I teach in a very diverse first grade classroom with 61% of my students who are English language learners. Many of my students come prepared and ready to learn, but some of my students come without the basic necessities that I do my best to help provide them so there are no barriers to learning.

All of my students are eager to learn and excited to be in school.

All of them have kind hearts and want to do their best and make their teachers and parents happy. And all of them have so much potential that I am blessed to help work with them towards their goals and ambitions.

My Project

My students are just learning to read and get hooked on books and I want to encourage them by buying some series books that have the same character in multiple books. This will get the students invested in the character and excited to read the adventures that the character goes through.

This will also help my students with writing as we start our new writing unit where students are going to write their own series of books with the same character.

They can reference what they have read through the series books to create their own books.

Many of my students are starting to read at a beginning of second grade level, but my library was geared for my Kindergarteners since that was what I taught for 15 years. I am lacking in many second grade level books. Thank you so much for supporting our classroom of readers.
