As a teacher in a diverse rural elementary school, my students are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom. I want them to be able to feel safe to explore during reading. In my fourth grade classroom I have 22 students for the day. We have math, reading, writing, language, technology, art, music, physical education, STEAM, along with interventions nearly everyday. They are working so hard but many lack books at home.
I want my students to be able to escape into new worlds and places through reading in a fun way.
I believe if I can create a love for reading this will open doors for many of my students. I am trying to teach them about the world around them through books. My kids LOVE learning about new places and things that exist outside of their norm.
My Project
I am requesting supplies to foster a work space where students can enjoy their reading. I want students to have books that can inspire them, make them laugh, or can teach them something they have not experienced. My goal is to teach each of my students about the world around them they may not know about.
Many of my students do not get opportunities to experience things outside of reading about them.
Having a space with items kids can use to have fun with their reading will make an enormous impact for our classroom. I feel the best way for students to learn through reading is to have an appropriate place to do so.
