This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
One of my many wishes for my students is for them to grow as readers. I want my class to develop a love of reading and develop their conversation skills around books that they enjoy! My classroom library desperately needs leveled reading books to accommodate my eager readers.
My students are early elementary students.
The majority of my students are reading below grade level. They enjoy when I read books aloud in class to them. My school is a small school where all the students are known to everyone in the school community.
My Project
The rug tiles will be used for my students to find a comfortable place to read during reading time. Also we will use the rug tiles during our whole class meeting time. The just-right reading books will be matched to readers to independently read or partner read during the reading workshop.
This project will put "just-right" reading books into the hands of my students.
They will not be frustrated or disengaged because they are limited in their book choices. These materials will open the door for them to have access to growth as readers.
