Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are eager learners. They are in a low-income community that is dedicated to empowering and building strong, independent learners that can reach for the stars and have dreams with no limits. I want to teach my students to work independently in small and whole groups so they are able to problem solve and learn how to live and work in the real world.
The majority of my learners are African American or Hispanic and come from families that are hardworking.
They want their children to learn and grow to be outstanding citizens and adults. I am encouraging positive and uplifting attitudes and behaviors while holding them to high expectations both behaviorally and academically.
I want to foster my students' eagerness to learn and continue to help them love learning with hands-on activities. I want all of my students to create their own goals and be able to succeed. I want them to be able to learn how to use the proper tools so they can succeed and achieve their dreams. I want to provide as many resources as I can so my students can invent, learn, explore, help each other and be independent, responsible young men and women.
My Project
I have slowly been rebuilding my classroom library. Our school has been without a librarian for most of the year and I have outdated and irrelevant books that my students have no interest in.
My students love to read and I want to encourage that love by building a library that I can't keep them away from.
All of the book sets along with read-alongs are stories that the students absolutely love. I created a Reading Wish List for my kids and most of the books being purchased are on that wish list. Every single story wishes to be read and I have a class full of eager readers ready to read them.
I'm also requesting grammar and writing file folder games. Our grammar skills really need help and extra support. These file folder games are great for independent practice along with small group practice to reinforce these necessary skills. I am also happily choosing any fun type of activity that gets my kids to love writing in any capacity.
This project is a big one but such an important one. The love of reading, writing, and grammar is essential in all that we do. These skills build future writers and readers.
