My students need more interesting non-fiction/fiction books to read with their book buddies!
This project expired on August 2, 2018.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
I have 17 lovely kindergarten students. They all come from different backgrounds and economic statuses. Many of them come in barely knowing how to read, write, and knowing their letters/sounds. I strive to have a safe and caring learning environment for all students. Because of my efforts, I have created a caring classroom environment where all my children use manners and are preparing to be wonderful citizens for America. Our school is civics based and they will grow up to learn about our government throughout the years. I also hope to instill a love for learning in all my students.
For the rest of the year, my class has paired up with a second grade class to read together weekly. The second graders will read to my kids and ask them questions about the story. This helps second graders practice their reading skills and the second graders model reading for my students.
I am looking for interesting topics for the kids to read.
Many of the books I have chosen have to do with our curriculum and what we have been learning this year. We learned about some historic people, plants/animals, and many other topics this year.
I am lacking a lot of variety in my personal library for the students. I want to give the students lots of choices of books to read with their partners. It is hard for us to continually go to the library to check out books as we have over 2000 students and my school barely has enough books in the library.
I also chose kindergarten level books so that some of my kindergarteners can practice reading to the second graders. I have done book buddies in the past and it is exciting to see how much the children love reading together and the bonds that form between them!
