We are a Listening and Spoken Language full-day preschool classroom that serves students who are deaf or hard of hearing from several different school districts. The students in my class utilize various hearing devices and amplification systems to learn spoken English and work diligently in order to communicate with their friends and family members. There is no denying that the children in this classroom have an endless amount of potential They are resilient, they are determined, and they are eager to learn.
Introducing my students to a world of music may seem simple and mundane on the surface, but it is a task that needs to be well-planned, structured, and possibly adjusted from day to day. With the continuing advancements in hearing technology, children who are deaf or hard of hearing can access, enjoy, make, dance to, and listen to music every day.
Simply exposing these students to music is not enough; they deserve to take part in a program that will purposefully teach them the elements of music and how to create it.
Kindermusik is a program that guides the teacher with inspiring lesson plans to bring music into the classroom. Although I am not a music teacher I would appreciate the opportunity to learn how to teach music to young children.
