Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a diverse bunch of adorable! They are curious and ravenous for amazing literature.
Many of the students' parents work long hours, unable to go to the library, or buy books that interest their child. As a Title I school, the economic status of the students vary widely.
Our district has shown immense student growth because the students work hard. The majority of the students speak two languages. Therefore, they need more exposure to reading in English. They appreciate a good book when given.
My Project
These books will allow students to choose books that challenge and excite them. I want to foster a climate of literacy that includes students becoming responsible for their own reading.
These books are high interest and grade level appropriate. Students will be able to choose books that can meet their needs both mentally and emotionally.
Every child should be immersed in a world full of different types of reading and writing styles. Sixth grade is a crucial year when students either take a love of learning with them or drop it for other things. We must help them hold on to the love of learning! Students who read more do better in school.
