Help me give my students a classroom library full of diverse high-quality literature to spark their interest, improve their skills, and encourage engagement in literacy.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a proud educator of 60 young scholars in an impoverished urban area of GA. We are in a low-income/high-poverty school district, with many of my students facing challenges both in and out of the classroom. However, their tenacious attitudes allow them to come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically. Truly, they are my inspiration!
In addition to teaching students the required grade-level skills, I also teach them how to be creative problem solvers, critical thinkers, and informed citizens of the world.
We solve the riddles of mathematics, dive deep into literature, travel through history, and explore all the world has to offer. It is when my classroom is full of the exciting sounds of learning that I see the boundless potential of each one of my diverse students.
My Project
Literacy is so fundamental to learning that its importance cannot be overstated — it is the essential foundation of education. Many of my students struggle with reading and find the task to be intimidating and obligatory. By donating to this project, you will give my students access to a high-quality classroom library that appeals to their varied interests and abilities.
Author and professor Frank Serafini once said, “There is no such thing as a child who hates to read; there are only children who have not found the right book".
All of these books have been thoughtfully chosen to meet the needs of my students. From classic tales to non-fiction texts to graphic novels, there is something for everyone. The variety of levels and formats will give each student the ability to explore their interests while strengthening their reading skills. It is my hope that these books will give my students the opportunity to become strong, independent readers.
