My Students
My classroom is a revolving door. Students come in and out at various times of the day for a variety of needs. Each student has individual goals and my dream is for all students to meet and exceed their goals, along with becoming successful learners in their general education classroom.
Our school is a Title I school with a very diverse population of students.
Along with that diversity comes a large span of strengths and needs. I serve all grade levels at our school (Pre-K through 5th), so I see a variety of needs and learning styles on a daily basis in my classroom.
My Project
I teach many students whose first language is not English. Due to the fact that a majority of my students are low income, a lot of them do not have access to literacy activities that they can practice with their parents.
I want my parents to feel involved in their students learning.
I created this project requesting phonics and Instant Language centers at varying levels. My students will be able to checkout these centers and games from me to take home and have their parents play with them to help review and strengthen much needed literacy skills. My students will then have class time to draw a picture of themselves along with their parent who read the book to them. In addition to their drawing the students will write 2-5 sentences about how it made them feel to be able to practice their reading skills with parents.
