My students need access to ebooks and audiobooks to support their learning! We currently own 4 mp3 players for audiobooks and have a waiting list of over 20 students.
I am fortunate to be the librarian in an elementary school of over 400 3rd, 4th and 5th graders. My students come from varied backgrounds and have a variety of reading needs and skills.
For many, the school library is the only place for them to access books and digital resources.
Most students do not live within walking distance to our town center and rely on car transportation to get around after school. The school library is their information superstore, and they need to be able to access current, exciting resources 24/7, with or without a home internet connection.
My Project
My students love to listen to books. Whether it's through a library or classroom read-aloud, or a high quality audiobook, they are gluttons for listening! It contributes to a strong book culture in our school and empowers students to have rich literature discussions regardless of their reading level.
Providing access to age-appropriate resources in all formats is an absolute necessity .
We have built our own district digital library of hundreds of audiobooks and ebooks through OverDrive, a digital library provider. I am requesting kindle Fire Tablets, Cases, memory Scan disk for the tablets. We need devices so all students can use this large library at school and at home. Kindle Fire tablets will help our learners access Amazon Whispercast books, which are read aloud by professional actors to students, highlight text and students can read-along.
