Help me give my students the gift of reading! I would love to add some Scholastic non-fiction readers to my collection of books! I am working on growing my classroom library!
I teach reading to students in grades 1-4. I have a very diverse group of students with various learning needs. Most of my students are reading below grade level. My students focus their time on strengthening their skills and strategies so they can grow as readers. They benefit greatly from anything that can motivate them to be more engaged in their learning.
My students are motivated to read and learn about interesting and intriguing topics.
They are special because they are enthusiastic learners who try tremendously hard despite their reading struggles. We set reading goals at the beginning of the school year and most of my students have achieved those goals and more! These goals include but are not limited to improving reading comprehension, fluency and accuracy.
My Project
In order for students to grow in reading they need to choose books at their independent level that are interesting and engaging. Many of my students have a specific interest in reading non-fiction.
Student choice and engagement when reading independent level text can really impact student success.
I would like to grow my classroom library to include more up-to-date, engaging texts such as the ones that I selected from the Scholastic site. These new books would be motivating for students.
In my classroom, students select books from a book bin to read on a daily basis. These new books would add to my current collection of books.
