Help me give my students all the tools they need for their art classes, which consists of fashion design, beauty and styling, visual arts, music and dance!
The population of my students consists of teenage girls who have experienced significant gaps in their educational experiences and who typically have high academic and social-emotional needs. Many of these girls have encountered traumas such as human trafficking, homelessness, domestic violence, sexual assault, abandonment, and incarceration. Additionally, several of the girls with whom I work are either pregnant or parenting. I have developed an arts program, which consists of fashion design, beauty and styling, visual arts, music, and dance. These classes are meant to create spaces where these girls can create without judgment in order to fully express themselves and share their stories.
One of my students has explained that my classes have become part of who she is and has saved her life and another student has said these classes have taught her how to love herself.
Initially, these programs began with a total of nine students. In just the three years I have been teaching, I now work with approximately one hundred girls, who are each incredibly talented artists and deserve a platform to raise their voices.
They are the CHANGE the world needs. They are the GIRLS the world needs.

I love and care about these girls so much and want to give them every opportunity to create, heal from past traumas, and break out of any unhealthy cycles they may encounter. My heart has never been more full than when I am with them.
These students will use all of the materials in their art and fashion design programs and will create various pieces, such as paintings on both paper and canvases, sculptures to be displayed at their school, and abstract installations about various relevant cultural and social issues, such as climate change and women's rights.
Additionally, their programs will culminate in an art and fashion show at a museum, where their paintings, sculptures, and designs will be displayed for the public to see while their fashion line will walk down the runway. These items will fully supplement their art program at the school.
Past examples of projects include:
-a full fashion collection that was shown in museums and runways on professional models;
-makeup application, hair styling, and clothing designing for famous singers and celebrities;
-art galleries and installations about their identities and about gynocentrism, including sculptures, illustrations, painting, and abstract art;
-interactive designing, painting, and sculpting;
-a body-positivity clothing line;
-creative writing with the community; and
-experiential learning that promotes a healthy social-emotional learning
