My classroom is a family full of diverse learners. Our school is Title 1 - so many of them come to school without their basic needs being met - let alone experiences that would help them navigate our world.
It is my great joy to help them build their data bank of worldliness in order to gain knowledge, empathy, and the grit needed to be a high achiever.
A classroom full of engaged learners who are having fun as they learn makes for life-long readers. It is my goal to make our class a safe place, full of hard work, kindness, exploring, and most of all - love.
My Project
These books were chosen because they support specific, engaging lessons in comprehension that will help my students grow as independent readers.
They are quality pieces of literature that provide diverse roll models and exposure to different cultures and experiences than our Texas hometown.
Books give them an insight into the world outside their small circle, and develop their vocabulary in both people and places.
After we have completed each study, they will be working on specific skills in order to apply to their own reading. We do not have access to these titles in our school library, and need them in order to do this important work.
