My students are hard-working individuals in a military community. Most have parents and family who are in the Navy or work on the boats and ships in the area through our shipyard. They have grown up knowing that anything can be achieved as long as hard work is put in.
Unfortunately, many students in my class and school also come from families that are struggling.
Low income restricts my students' ability to have the same experiences as many others. I want them to be able to come to school and feel equal to those families that are more well-off.
Throughout the entire school, interactive whiteboards are in use on a daily basis. Students are flourishing through whole-class instruction in which they are able to be an active participant in their learning. These 2-dimensional interactive tools are allowing them to build a foundation for life-long understanding.
However, due to a lack of funding, my classroom was left out during the technological updates.
While every other class is benefiting from the advances being made, I am unable to keep up with my colleagues and use programs specifically designed to be interactive. I am plan to utilize this technology in my classroom in order to not only develop skills needed to be successful in the years to come, but also to prepare my students for a future where the use of these interactive technologies will be prominent.
