This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"If a seed of lettuce will not grow, we do not blame the lettuce. Instead, the fault lies with us for not having nourished the seed properly." ~Buddhist proverb
Our dedicated students are members of an inner city public school in Maryland.
The student population is comprised mostly of Latino and Latina students who are learning English as a second language. Our students come from families who are involved in their education and who are determined for their children to succeed.
My Project
I want to nourish our lettuce by creating an easily accessible bookshelf. The bookshelf will be organized by level of difficulty and by book topics using these book bins. The book bins are sturdy and provide a clear label to display the topic of the books within. The way the books will be organized provides students with a quick and trouble-free way to choose a just-right book to read and grow.
The organization of these book bins will nourish each student and add to the true enjoyment of reading.
Students will not feel frustrated or defeated because they struggled to find an interesting book.
