Food Safety and Sanitation: That's Just Gross!

My students need hands-on materials, including a Glo Germ kit and a Food Safety toss up ball, in order to understand, and use in their lives, food-borne illness prevention.

My Students

Have you ever thought you were poisoned by the food you consumed?

My students range in grades from junior high to high school.

Our school is a rural school. Our students come from the country and small towns within our district. The Family and Consumer Sciences dept at our school is very popular. The majority of our students and families see the importance of being prepared for the "real world".

My Project

Students respond well and seem to be able to learn more effectively when they are able to use their hands. Many students are tactile learners. These resources would allow me to improve my lessons on food borne illnesses as well as teaching about nutrition and wellness. I am requesting a Food Safety Toss Up Ball, a Food Safety Folding Display and small Glo Germ Kit. These are materials my students will be able to manipulate. The Glo Germ kit is a neat way for students to literally see the importance of good hand washing and why cross contamination can be so dangerous.

It doesn't matter who you are, what your future plans are, how much money your parents have, or how "smart" you think you are.

Everyone needs to learn the basic living skills for the future.
