Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Be the change you wish to see in the world."- M. Gandhi
This could be the experiment that changes the course of a life. Many students do not know what fresh food tastes like, or where it comes from, or how to grow it. They do not have access to fresh food. Let this be a fresh food revolution!
My students come from many different backgrounds and cultures, arriving at our school from all over the city.
It is an eclectic mix and our school culture reflects this diversity. I have never taught at a school as accepting and unique as this one. Students embrace their diversity and thus it is a very tight-knit community.
My Project
I am requesting a hydroponic system for my classroom after being inspired by the Green Bronx Machine project. I envision teaching most science units with the aid of this hydroponic system by relating fresh food to things from cells, to environment, to health, energy cycling and much more. I am excited to integrate more agriscience and conservation concepts into my classroom. This experiment also addresses nutrition and food from a biological perspective, contributing to a more holistic education.
I hope to introduce my students to a new view of science, themselves and the inter-connectivity that binds all living things.
I want to challenge them to be fearless learners, innovators and educators for their families. I want them to nourish their curiosity, feed their hunger and pursue their goals. I want them to be the next generation to change the world.
