My students are super nerdy. I'm the librarian at school and I also assist the coordinator of student activities. For my third hat, I help fundraising by writing some grants.
My students are very curious and the student body is truly one of the most diverse in the state a 65% non-Caucasian population.
Yet, contrary to some beliefs, our school graduates 100% of its students, year after year. It's very inspiring to work with my students.
My Project
Our local economy is based on tourism and many of our parents work in the hospitality industry. Of course, many have lost their jobs and have had trouble feeding their kids who were home during that time.
Currently, local food banks cannot provide enough food for everyone in need.
We started receiving requests for financial help (we've waived all fees for courses such as arts, sports etc.) and food and we've raised funds from teachers, parents who were better off and alumni. We raised some money, which helped a lot, but we need to get more food.
We 've done a few DonorsChoose projects. As soon as the food gets in, it gets out. We have a 5-inch binder of requests that we filled and have started another one. A large donation would help for the end of the year into next year. As the end of the year approaches and the 2-week break is upon us, we'd love to be able to provide our families in need with a care package full of food, with your help.
