My Students

How do we encourage our students to save the environment if they have not built a relationship with the ecosystem around them? I am working on building an immersive outdoor space that will be a productive garden while also providing a space for students to learn environmental concepts and skills and recuperate. We would like it to be a space for community experts to come in and teach our students skills in agriculture, environmentalism, activism, leadership, and more. I teach a variety of students including those with severe learning and emotional disabilities who benefit from being immersed in a community and having a quiet outdoor space.

My Project

With the resources proposed students would be able to make their hard work, plans, and dreams a reality that would enhance the school community and larger community. The tools will enable students to actually create their own outdoor classroom, garden and food forest.

Students in my horticulture class have spent the last two weeks practicing design thinking to design a better use for an empty outdoor space.

They interviewed stakeholders, created models based on these stakeholders needs, and are now ready to redesign their outdoor spaces for the enjoyment and enrichment of their school community. Help my students create a flourishing garden and food forest with this donation.
