Help me give my students professional rice cookers and baking pan for providing them with the tools they need to compete in today's restaurant marketplace.
Our students come from a broad range of cultures, socio-economic backgrounds, and academic abilties. Being a Culinary Arts teacher allows me to circumvent the pitfalls of my purely academic colleagues, and teach to the whole child and not just to the left or the right brain. My students greet me each day with a smile on their face and pat on their belly.
Many of my students think of their parents' kitchen as simply a place where the refrigerator is stored.
Some of my students do not understand the importance of a healthy meal. It is my job to help my students learn about the benefits of eating a well-balanced diet and preparing healthy foods. Watching the look on students face when they recognize that healthy can mean tasty is awe-inspiring. I have a wonderful job! I have diverse, creative, and wonderful students!
My Project
My goal, as Culinary instructor, is to provide some industry ready experiences for my students. By having professional rice cookers (the Zojirushi rice cooker is something you would find in any good Asian food restaurant) for my students to use, my students can use this experience on resumes and in job interviews to separate themselves from their competition.
In addition, the Madeline pans are a needed tool to present an overall pastry program to my students.
While this equipment is only introducing my students to the world of Culinary Arts, it goes a long way to make them ever more marketable in today's economy.
