My Students

I teach at a public school in NYC with a high immigrant population. It is a low income/high poverty area. Despite the learning and economic challenges my students face, they are determined to work hard and succeed in school.

Many of my fifth grade students are learning English as a second language, and some of them also have a learning disability.

I try my best to making learning fun and memorable for them through hands-on activities and projects. However, due to their economic struggles, help is needed to purchase school materials.

My Project

My students come to school hungry and are expected to participate in and complete all class assignments. However, it is difficult for them to think and stay focused in class when their stomachs are growling.

Like the saying, "breakfast feeds the brain," my students need healthy crackers and bars to help them get through the morning.

It would be helpful if my students have healthy snacks available in our classroom to keep them energized until lunch. They will be able to eat these snacks while completing their work. As a result, they will be able to concentrate more on their school work.
