My students are an amazing, creative, and energetic group of individuals. They all come to school excited to experience success and are ready to learn. They work together to create a classroom environment that is inclusive and safe for everyone.
They are passionate about art projects, protecting our Earth, making a difference, and enjoy learning new skills.
These students face many challenges. Our school has over 60% of the students receiving a free or reduced-price lunch. They work really hard and are eager to learn.
My Project
Making school fun is currently more important than ever.
Anytime you can get a student excited about reading while making school fun, is a huge win for everyone.
With library services harder to get access to, the need to recognize positive moments in kids, and kids needing more community interaction, Holt has a project to help.
The “Bookworm Vending Machine” offers food for the brain. The machine would be used as a Positive Behavior Incentive giving students the opportunity to earn tokens that they'll then use to purchase a book from the machine. Bookworm Vending Machine dispenses books using golden tokens that students earn for things like good behavior, attendance, as well as effort, and academic performance.
Many children don’t have access to books at home. The books from this machine will become the property of the student who chooses them. The books inside come in all Lexile levels to accommodate children from any grade, K-5.
During remote learning, kids will earn the reward for positive behavior. Fun and positive events like this are the kinds of interactions that our students and staff need to get us through this very tricky year.
This Bookworm Vending machine works by using a positive reward-based system to help encourage students to read more.
