Celebrate Black Teachers and Students
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students attend a Title I school in Pennsylvania and all receive free or reduced-price lunch and breakfast. They attend a typical inner-city school. Most face serious obstacles before they even walk through the doors in the morning. Our goal is to make our school a safe and loving environment.
Our students come from diverse backgrounds and different countries. This makes our school pretty special in so many ways. The students all work so hard and are very deserving of this project.
My Project
My students are the sweetest inner-city kids. They come to school and before they even walk through the door, many of them are dealing with huge adult issues like tiredness and hunger. Unfortunately, these are issues no child should have to deal with. My hope is that with simple items like chips, candy, and other little snacks can help make a child’s day better. A simple snack like fruit snacks or chips can take away their hunger and then allow them to focus on school. Giving students access to snacks and treats helps them know that someone cares. They are validated about their self worth and know we want them to come to school and be successful.
