My students need breakfast items and snacks. Last year, I provided food and snacks for my students to see if the kids benefited. They did! I had many students tell me how hungry/grateful they were!
My students are fantastic kids. They are appreciative and grateful young people who, unfortunately, sometimes come from very difficult home situations. For some of my kids, the school day is an oasis of calm and care, a break from their home lives. The students who populate my classroom also have mild special needs, including learning and emotional difficulties.
I love working with my students.
Each day is a challenge, each day is full of gratitude, and being able to see young people blossom and grow is a gift.
My Project
Many of my students come to school hungry. Not having regular access to food is an impediment to learning and enjoying the process of education. It is shocking how many hungry tummies are sitting in my classroom each day. As an experiment, I provided breakfast and snacks to my students last year to see if concentration and learning improved. I have been amazed at the results.
My students were so grateful to have food available to them.
It is lovely, having gratitude in our daily lives. My little 7th graders were so full of gratitude for having full bellies. They worked so hard for me and did so well in response. I am so very proud of my students.
