Mrs. Veneklase from Muskegon MI is requesting classroom basics through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a mini-fridge to keep extra breakfast and lunch foods cold, so they can eat at home.

My students are curious, passionate, dedicated learners in the 3rd grade. Our academy's goal is to provide a safe and emotionally secure learning environment. In addition, we focus on real-world skills, problem solving, and how to be a good citizen.
My scholars have a ton of potential; my goal is to help them realize this potential by cultivating academic excellence and recognizing their individual strengths.
They are a creative and innovative group. With the right tools, the sky is truly the limit!
My students come from a variety of experiences, and some come to school having faced immense struggles. 100% of our students receive free school breakfast and lunch.
My students eat breakfast and lunch in our classroom every day; this is a fantastic time to build relationships with students, eat in small groups with students who need someone to talk to, or even help teach basic skills like table manners, sharing, and cleaning up.
To help meet students' needs and reduce waste, we have created a "No Thank You Bin" in our classroom. This is a small plastic tub that students can put unwanted breakfast or lunch items into, and from which students who would like more to eat can choose to grab items. This has been immensely successful, and students have benefited with extra cereal, muffins, crackers, and more as needed.
Due to lack of refrigeration in the classroom, unfortunately we are unable to save any perishable items. With this mini-fridge, we will be able to save perishable items like milk, fruit cups, yogurt, proteins, and vegetables so that they do not spoil. At the end of the day, my goal is to have students be able to take these items home to enjoy with their families. Not only will this help reduce food waste, but it will also help provide my students with the greatest need with an evening meal at home.
