For the past 27 years, I have had the pleasure of teaching 9-10 year olds (Grade 4) in the community where I grew up as a child. I wanted to stay in my hometown as a way to give back to the children who will become our future leaders. My students come to school with a lot of pep and pizzazz, ready to learn. They come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Most of their families are struggling to make ends meet, with approximately 78% of them below the poverty line, which enables my school district to qualify for free breakfast and lunch for every student every day. The current situation in America with COVID-19 and the Stay-at-Home orders are concerning me that my students are not receiving the proper nutrition each day.
With that in mind, I of course am concerned about continuing to educate my kiddos to the best of my ability, but I am very concerned about their health and well-being, I would like to help out my school families by providing additional healthy snack bags each week.
This would help take some of the financial burden off of their folks.
My Project
My students are much more engaged in their studies when they are not thinking of their bellies. The healthy snacks that I have chosen will help to fuel their brains each day so they can work to their full potential. They will be able to grab a healthy snack while completing their online classwork. I plan to drop off these snack bags myself so this will allow me to check up on them.
I thank you in advance for helping my students be the best students they can be!
My kiddos will appreciate your generosity. Thank you!
