Help me give my students food to keep them focused. Not only does food keep my students focused, but it works as a great motivator for them to work hard and earn good grades.
My third-grade students live in a rural community where the entire elementary population receives free breakfasts and lunches, due to the socioeconomic status of the majority of our children's families. The students come from diverse backgrounds, but share a common desire to want to be successful.
My students want to learn and crave new and exciting ways to stimulate their minds: Small treat rewards are just the incentive my students need to work hard and do their best in class.
My Project
Studies show that eating a healthy breakfast is good for the mind. Students often skip breakfast or go without breakfast, because the cafeteria is serving something they don't care for.
My students are starving to learn, but it's hard for them to focus on learning when some of their bellies are still hungry from not eating any dinner the night before.
By providing my students with snacks, I can keep their brains and bodies active and ready for a day of learning. When students are starting to drift off in math class, a treat for the right answer is enough to rally the attention and focus back to the skill being taught. Everyone wants to be a winner. Small snacks are a terrific prize.
