Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom demographic is diverse. My students are in the most restrictive setting because of their severe language, emotional, and cognitive delays. They are often unable to regulate their feelings, and many exhibit severe behavior issues. One might wonder how, with all these challenges, they get academic work done. I praise them often and find something that they do well in order to keep them motivated. Most of my students are boys, and they learn best through tactile and kinesthetic activities. Putting all these challenges aside, this is a group of students who really come in every day eager to learn. This is the reason why I feel they should be exposed to as much as I can possibly give them.
My Project
I have noticed that there are a few students who could benefit from having a few hygiene supplies. I am requesting toothbrushes, toothpaste and shampoo so that students can keep their bodies clean. When students come to school unclean, it really interrupts their ability to even have a relationship with the other students. I would like the students to come to school feeling confident and not have to concern themselves with body odor.
I am also requesting some food supplies in order to create a few care packages.
These are things that no child should have to concern them self with. Donating to this project would help me give my students these much needed supplies. Thank you.
