At our school, we believe in teamwork and that all students can learn and achieve academically. In order for each student to be assessed on their part in the learning process as well as meet the new standards set forth by our state, large and small white boards are needed so we can keep up with the pacing of STEM-like projects required in the science classroom. Many of my students are very eager to learn and seem to be very interested in science and want to share with their classmates. Science should be more argumentative driven, therefore having boards gives students an ownership to their investigations in phenomenal science as they can now express to other students their new found knowledge about a particular content and defend their findings. All students will be engaged as having white boards for group assessments, whether it be a two member group or four member group, it will allow for differentiated learners to participate in a variety of ways such as being the writer, artists, or even leader.
My Project
Having white boards will allow students to engage in argument driven inquiry on a daily basis. Students need to have easy access to materials that they can present their arguments about some scientific STEM idea or project.
Whiteboards will be used for students to present their scientific claims, provide evidence through data tables, and finalize their findings with reasoning that can all be visualized on white boards, as well as used for review quizzes.
This provides all students with differentiated instruction as there would be something for all students to contribute to the presentation, such as art, graphing, and dialogue.
