This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students reside in a suburban community where they receive 100% free lunch. They are in the inner part of the city but stay in low-income housing developments. They are always willing to learn new concepts and materials. This is my first year at this school. We are trying to build the biology and physical science courses. My students are always looking for ways to create and express themselves while learning. They love to do hands-on learning and exploration.
My students are very vocal and energetic when it comes to learning and receiving new opportunities.
They are expected to keep interactive notebooks and complete weekly projects. They love to explore their environment. We are a one-to-one school. This requires that I be creative and innovative with the types of resources and technologies that I use to enhance our lessons. Many of my physical science students are special needs.
My Project
My students do a lot of reading and writing in science. We try to make it interactive with our notes and textbooks. My students will complete various foldables with their notes. They will also make models and complete drawings of the concepts. My students learn better when they have visuals. The file folders and paper will be used to create books and to organize their work.
I will display the projects with each unit.
The models will be hung around my classroom. My special needs children learn better when they have projects and foldables. They feel free to learn and grow in my science classes.
