Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The first thing students ask me every year is, "Are we going to dissect anything?" I tell them "Yes, paper!" They are confused at first, but soon jump on the FOLDABLE bandwagon. Foldables are a great way to organize and at the same time have fun!
I teach in a inner city school with at least 80% of our students on free and reduce lunch.
We do have some technology, but far from the amount in some schools where students have computer access every day and access at home. We need to be creative and innovative in other ways. The majority of students who attend my school learn best by doing hands-on activities. They are motivated and eager to learn.
My Project
My classroom is very hands-on, and I want students to use their science notebooks as a source of information. The composition notebooks are the best for setting a foundation for fun and interactive foldables. To make foldables we fold, cut, glue, and color the important information in science. This makes learning about protons, neutrons, and electrons more exciting and makes it easier to organize the information.
Donating to my project will supply my students with the necessary tools to help engage them in their education.
I'm not sure who first said, "Tell me, I forget; Show me I remember; Involve me I understand," but this is the ideology I base my teaching on.
