Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are hard-working and task-oriented. They are spirited and resourceful. They can be both playful and serious. We feel like a family. We have been working all year on developing our problem-solving skills and also trying to develop as socially conscious humans. They enjoy challenges and always have a lot to contribute to any discussion. Each and every one of them brings something unique to the learning table.
Although several of my students have personal challenges, their disposition remains positive and their path productive.
It has been a year of challenges and changes and I am proud to see the growth they've exhibited. I enjoy providing them with a range of opportunities to access their curriculum and look forward to projects and resources that can foster my effectiveness as a teacher.
My Project
Once students enter middle school, it seems some of the opportunities to do hands-on projects become less available due to time constraints. Origami is a wonderful way for students to incorporate math and art into a hands-on learning experience that will help them make connections to the content. Students will enjoy using the colorful perfect squares to fold and create while understanding about geometric patterns, designs, and angles. The sky will be the limit as they explore and build algebraic patterns and exponential designs using the vibrant sheets. They can calculate area, surface area, and volume using a variety of three dimensional shapes while having fun and letting their creativity flow.
