My students need a quality camera to capture student events for our Yearbook Club.

Pablo Picasso put it best: "Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up." For students in a high-risk community, this challenge is even greater. With this quality camera, my students will have the opportunity to learn & practice the art of photography.
I am the Yearbook adviser for my K-8 urban elementary school.
This is the 2nd year that the school has ever had a yearbook after school group. Outside of our weekly meetings in which we come together as a group, my student photographers are assigned to various school events throughout the week, such as sports games, parent activities, school dances, club competitions, and special events. They dedicate multiple evenings to our club and frequently their Saturdays as well.
I have quite a mix of personalities in my group. A few are strong students, simply looking for a fun club to be a part of to occupy their free time. There are not many positive recreational options available to them in the community and they like to stay involved with the school. Others, however, use to struggle to do well in school as a result of their behavior issues. I have a strict no-tolerance policy for negative attitudes in my group, and I make that very known in the beginning of the year. I am in close contact with the classroom teachers and if a student displays poor behavior in class, they are not able to participate in the group for the week. I have seen student behavior & attitudes drastically turn around as a result of wanting to be in this group. I also have students desperately craving a creative outlet. Their opportunity to interact with the arts is close to none. Our group gives them a chance to demonstrate artistic creativity through photography and digital editing.
Yearbook allows students to not only foster their artistic abilities, but also create a vivid yearbook that captures all of the great things happening in the community.
The camera that we have has stopped working. Without the ability to purchase one, our group is at a halt. Please help our group to survive. Not only will your donation allow us to continue capturing the positive changes being made at our school, it will help to motivate a group of young students who are looking for direction.
