Eighth graders are a special bunch. They are old enough to understand humor and sarcasm, but young enough to still have respect for authority. This combination is exactly why I love teaching this age. My students can take a bad day and make it better with a simple comment or hug. They make me laugh and they make me proud every day.
My students deserve to receive the very best education has to offer, and it is my charge to see that they have the tools to do so.
They inspire me on a daily basis to not only help them learn content, but also to learn to be good people in the world.
My Project
Today's young people are incredibly tech-savvy and most are glued to their technology every day. Yet, in many classrooms across the nation, students are asked to set aside that technology and learn in a traditional way. This only leads to boredom and a lack of interest. So why not bring technology into the classroom and allow students to use it to advance their knowledge base in the content areas?
My math and algebra students deserve the best opportunities my classroom can offer.
By having these Chromebooks and mice, I can facilitate their learning of concepts such as exponential growth of credit card debt or money in a savings account. Students can use Chromebooks to become familiar with the ins and outs of testing online prior to the state mandated testing in the spring.
Another way Chromebooks can assist my students is with our online textbook. Although I still want my students to be able to create graphs on paper, being able to manipulate data and analyze the effect of this on certain types of graphs takes the level of understanding even deeper. When students can investigate ideas on their own, it is more meaningful and memorable. I do not want to be the giver of knowledge. I want my students to explore and discover on their own with my guidance.
