My students need reading guide strips to keep their eyes on the words and pictures after reading. These children's books will allow students the chance to use the strips.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Remember learning to read? For some it's a struggle and the pictures are more interesting. For others it is simple but the pictures are still interesting. My students are learning to read but can still be distracted by the pictures before they read the words.
My school is a Title One school that has a diverse school.
The majority of the population is African American students. The majority of my class is not on level in reading and need the help in focusing. They are eager to learn but are still more interested in pictures than words.
My Project
The resources I am asking for will help my students to focus on the words in a book and then the pictures instead of the pictures alone. The reading guide strips will keep their focus on one line of text at a time, keeping the amount of words manageable. The books requested will allows students to use the new reading guides to keep focus.
This is so important to my students because there needs to be a shift from looking at the pictures for meaning to reading the words for meaning and the pictures enhance the words.
My students need to realize the words provided describe the pictures not the other way around.
