Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is located in Austin, Texas. Our school consists of over 600 students with nearly all of our population being classified as economically disadvantaged and over 60% of our students being English Language Learners. Our learners need support from teachers, parents, and the community to succeed.
I enjoy working with my students because they persist and never give up.
My students are constantly working hard to improve their English and do well at school, while also sometimes dealing with a tough life at home. Despite challenges, they come to school and are eager to participate and learn.
My Project
This is my first year teaching 5th grade and I want to make sure I start it strong. One of my biggest focuses is going to be on small group instruction.
The 2020-2021 school year is going to be incredibly challenging for all.
My students and I need a small group table in order to go over concepts in detail. This table will help me sit down with 4-5 students and go over concepts they may not yet understand. I will be able to do small experiments with them and they will get the opportunity to discuss their findings. The will also be able to sit with me as we dive into assessments. Deep understanding of 5th grade science concepts are sure to help them in high school, college, or their future endeavors.
