I teach the most incredible six and seven year olds. My students come from very diverse backgrounds. Our school serves mid-town neighborhoods, students from a homeless shelter and safe house, and English-language learners from many different countries. We are all so different, and yet our class feels like a family. We challenge each other, learn from each other, and love each other every day.
My students are incredibly curious, inquisitive, thoughtful, hard-working, and kind!
They help each other out, learn from each other, ask great questions, share ideas and hugs, complement each other and challenge each other, and come to school eager to learn every day. I am an incredibly lucky teacher to have such a sweet, ambitious group of six and seven year olds!
My Project
At our school, we firmly believe that we are not only teaching our students essential academic skills, but also helping to raise good humans. We create a class promise together, learn how to shake hands and look each other in the eyes, practice resolving our conflicts during our "Peacekeepers" circles, and learn how to respect others and their personal space.
Privacy folders are such a great tool for first graders to help manage their personal space, but our current set is falling apart.
A new class set of durable privacy folders will allow my students to focus on important learning tasks and stay engaged during activities. Additionally, I have adorned my privacy folders with alphabet charts, sight word reference pages, and math solving tools to assist students while they work at their seats.
My class absolutely loves using this tool to help them stay engaged, but our current privacy folders are extremely well-loved. They are peeling, sides are falling off, and they are very dirty. My students are so mindful about how the handle our class materials, and I know that they would love and appreciate a new set of privacy folders.
