My Students

My school is made up of a very diverse population; many of whom are English Language Learners, including students from Hispanic, Marshallese, and an assortment of other cultural backgrounds. My school is also made up by a majority of free and reduced lunch students.

I've noticed over the years that my 7th grade, young, developing adolescent students have a hard time remaining seated for the duration of our 66 minute class.

I especially notice that many of my male students have a very hard time being able to focus and remain seated for extended periods of time.

My Project

My students will benefit from having more variety with their seating choices. They are developing 12 & 13 year olds that have a hard time sitting for extended periods of time in hard plastic chairs. My class periods last 66 minutes and while I try to make learning active and allow them to move around, it is often difficult to keep them from being uncomfortable after extended periods of time. These stools will allow them to focus more on the learning and less on being uncomfortable, which in turn will help them to be more successful in math and in school!
