Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our student body strongly values the important educational role that nature plays in all of our lives. With a focus on environmental education present in all areas of the school, students enjoy and ask for new ways to explore the natural world. A big part of this is giving space for new hands-on experiences! My students are natural leaders who want to get outside, get their hands dirty, look at issues from all angles, and engage their community in what we can do to solve problems together.

My Project

Giving new and interactive ways to engage with environmental science, beyond running experiments in the classroom, enables students to become better observers and investigators of the natural world. I plan on using them for a regular class of 3rd-5th graders, where we will learn about scientific illustration and nature photography.

Having these cameras will enhance the observation skills we are teaching at our environmental sciences magnet school.

These devices will allow students to work together to notice the ways the landscape and ecology around them functions, and will also teach them photographic composition skills. Being able to offer this kind of education will provide opportunity for curiosity, creativity, and scientific inquiry all to flourish at once.
