I need to be able to continually grow in my career and learn new strategies through professional development opportunities to enhance my students opportunities to learn to the best of their ability.
The mission of our school is to develop a community of lifelong learners who use inquiry, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills to be socially responsible contributors to a changing global society.
Students come to school excited to learn and share their new experiences with their families.
With that being said, students learn in a variety of ways. Some learn best through a hands-on approach while some excel with audio or visual models. With a world of growing technology, my students are learning through this avenue as well. With so many options available for student learning, I want to be prepared to foster any approach they may choose.
As an IB school, our students use inquiry and investigation to learn about the world around them. As active participants, our students need a variety of tools to further their education.
My Project
2019 will mark the eighth annual Focus on Inclusion Conference held in Indianapolis, Indiana. The IEP Resource Center coordinates the two-day event and brings in many different speakers from a variety of avenues with different perspectives on education. Throughout the two day conference, teachers have the opportunity to learn from others as well as gain access to many different resources and books to enhance our teaching. This conference will allow me to gain strategies to build my knowledge of what successful inclusion is and can become.
Co-Teaching, Specially Designed Instruction, and Responding to Escalating Behaviors are only a few of the topics that will be covered during the conference.
Having the opportunity to attend professional development in these areas will enhance my understanding and allow me to further implement best practices in the general education classroom. I had the pleasure of attending the Focus on Inclusion conference in 2018 and would love to be able to attend in 2019 as well. The experience is a wonderful learning tool and something every inclusion teacher should have the opportunity to attend.
