Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This project will benefit 18 third graders who are constantly on the go. As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Many of my students come from families that face socioeconomic challenges as well as parents who speak a different language. These challenges sometimes make learning difficult as their minds are not always on what is being taught in school. Providing my students with books to read as a whole class or in small groups to help relax and focus energy, will help my students to better accomplish the tasks that are given to them.
My Project
I believe the social and emotional health of my students is very important. Focusing on these aspects is essential in my teaching. Many of my students are coming to school with much more on their plate than they should have to be responsible for. The materials I am requesting will make an enormous impact in my student's social and emotional learning.
I received yoga mats for my entire class and am now requesting books as well as activity cards to use in conjunction with the yoga mats.
I think that by providing my students with opportunities to do yoga in the classroom, it will help my students to feel re-energized as well as re-focused throughout the day.
Third grade begins a lot of standardized testing for my students and my hope is that by doing yoga in the classroom, they will be able to tackle anything handed to them that a standardized test might require of them.
