My Students

My school is a small diverse Title 1 Public school in Sacramento region. The majority of my students is raised from a low socio-economic families. This year, my students have striven to succeed without any carpet to sit on during carpet time for read aloud and math time. I switched school and I couldn't take the carpets with me so I gave two rainbow carpets away. My students would love new carpet to sit on. If possible this new school year!

My Project

The lessons and activities that take place on the carpet are an essential component to my future second graders' learning experience. Carpet activities help build a strong and caring classroom community and help refocus students' attentions. I plan to use the carpet for class meetings, read-aloud, reading intervention, silent-sustained reading time, writing, and for Number Talk lesson to discuss math strategies. Currently, my students complained the floor is dirty and hard. They were not engaged to sit and learn on the rough floor on a daily basis.

We look forward to get the carpet for next school year and to use for many many more years!
