Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach second-graders in the heart of Oklahoma. This is a low socioeconomic region of the city. These children are faced with daily struggles that make it difficult to even arrive at school each day. However, through perseverance, they show up to school ready to learn.
Our school is a Great Expectations school.
My students strive to follow the eight expectations. They are learning and growing daily. Thanks to DonorsChoose.org, we are able to make learning more effective and exciting!
My Project
Since we're a hands-on classroom, we do a lot of learning on the floor at our circle area. I want them to have a space that is defined and creates a welcoming atmosphere. This carpet will give students a space that is comfortable and exciting.
Students collaborate in a designated area of the room as they listen and discuss much of their learning.
This colorful rug will be used multiple times during the day as children move and use different modes of learning.
This carpet truly will give everyone a place. We long to say goodbye to the days of "Your foot is in my back!" and "Move over, you're in my bubble!" and hello to "ah, I have room to breathe."
