My students need a flute to participate in concert and marching band.

As a teacher in an urban district, I have witnessed many students who have been unable to participate because they do not have an instrument. Other students have become discouraged by poor quality instruments that require costly repairs.
My students are charming and intelligent.
They laugh and cry together and support one another when things are not going well in life, and when things are going well. They attend an urban high school that shelters them from the everyday life of urban living. Some students live in homeless shelters and others in foster care. Some students are fortunate to live with one parent or relative. In spite of these adverse conditions, my students work hard and have found a passion and love in making music. It is their haven.
A gift of a new flute would help an aspiring young flute player. She has developed her flute skills but has been held back because of an old flute that has been repadded many times. Music is a career field that she would like to pursue. A new flute would inspire confidence in this student and the others that would play it for years to come. The flute is used in our concert, marching, and jazz bands.
Two years ago I took over a struggling urban music program.
There were only five students in the band program. Since I started we have grown to over seventy students. We have a fifty piece marching band, a forty member concert band and a fourteen member string orchestra. I serve inner city students who are mostly from low income families. I have created an environment that has fostered music making on a high level. A donation will help my mission to bring high quality education to my kids.
