My students need a listening center with some exciting books on CD to help them become better readers.

Have you ever been so into a book, you couldn't put it down until you were finished? I want my students to experience that kind of love for reading. Many of my students are reading below average. They exhibit poor fluency skills and often do not have support from home to help encourage reading.
I teach second grade.
We are a Title 1 school and have many children who come from environments where school achievement is not first priority. As a result, many students have not been provided opportunities to utilize the type of technology some of us take for granted. Another factor which impacts school performance is difficulty focusing. Of the seventeen children in my classroom, three have been diagnosed with ADHD, one has a significant learning disability, one has a conduct disorder, and four are ESOL students (who find it difficult to understand at times). Technology appeals to all these children and helps to maintain their focus for longer periods of time.
All the students in my class are involved in shared reading activities (whole class), intensive guided reading (small group) and individual reading. Building stamina in all these activities is a daily struggle, however when paired with the students' inability to read fluently and comprehend what is read affects their desire to put forth their best effort. My students love to use the computer and even if they are working on a reading game, they find it a reward to do so. I have one working computer, so not all the kids can use it as much as they would like. I had a listening center which would allow up to four students at a time to listen to the story and engage in activities. It was a very effective way to get kids who are hesitant about reading to get involved and feel good about it. My listening center is no longer working and I would like a replacement.
Fluent readers understand what they are reading.
It isn't fun to read when you must struggle with every other word. I want my students to be successful and to enjoy reading . A listening center is a small thing that can have a big effect on the future success of these students. Many students drop out of school once they are old enough to do so because they are not successful. Please help my kids reach their full potential!
