Fluency Success!

Help me give my students a listening center to help with reading fluency when we return to school.

My Students

Wow! What a school year!!! My students went through a few changes this year. I started a little later and was their second teacher of the year. Once we begin to get to know each other the pandemic hit and school was put on hold. The students adapted well. We learned how to log into Zoom and still get through lessons. The circumstances were different and challenging but once we got the hang of it all went well. Unfortunately, students only had use of an iPad and I believe they need books to read during the summer to help prepare them for 2nd grade.

My Project

School will return back to session at the end of the summer. Things will be very different from previous years. The interruption of learning due to the pandemic will have an affect on students reading fluency. It is my goal to help each student work through the regression by having them use a daily listening center. Listening to books is a surefire way to help aid in reading fluency as students follow along with the book. Students really enjoy listening to the book and reflecting after about the story.

Reading fluency is an important skill for young readers to learn.

Listening centers and other creative measures will help students who have regressed build their reading fluency next school year.
