This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are creative, thoughtful and full of energy! They absolutely love learning! They come to school each day ready to learn new things and make connections. I teach in an inner city Title 1 school. Many of my students come to school hungry or unclean. In my classroom I explain and show ways to break the cycle of poverty.

Each child in my classroom is an extraordinary human being full of curiosity who deserves a chance to learn using technology.

I am truly thankful to have a new group of learners that are excited and ready to learn each year!

My Project

Please help me get a Reading fluently center and a listening center. Fluency is the key to becoming a successful reader. By the end of first grade students are required to read 69 words a minute.

My students would love to have new materials to help them become better readers.

The fluency packet I requested will give the students a chance to time each other while working with a partner. In my classroom we have fluency drills weekly and I'm sure this center will increase my students words per minute.

The listening center will allow my students who are not on grade level to hear a fluent reader model how to read fluently. The students will be able to use their reading books along with a CD to follow a fluent reader reading.
