I teach third grade in an inner-city Chicago neighborhood. My students are fun, enthusiastic learners. They love coming to school, and we have the attendance rate to prove it! Every day, the students participate in Reading Workshop. While I am working with a small guided reading group, the other students are working in literacy centers. I have many centers already set up such as Reading Center, Listening Center, Word Study Center, and Computer Center. Now that my students have become successful at decoding words, I would like them to start working on becoming fluent readers. I want to add Fluency Center. I would like to purchase some activities so that small groups of students can read a passage and time themselves. This will help them set goals and monitor their fluency. Reader's Theater is a way for the students to practice their fluency and expression (not to mention their budding acting skills). Thank you so much for considering our proposal. The students are looking forward to improving their already strong reading skills.
